Job Description – This person leads the design and implementation of
Museum of Contemporary Craft’s fund-raising strategies and manages and
maintains the activities of a three person development department. The
Director of Development has the goal of broadening MCC’s base of support
and strengthening the organization through business partnerships,
relationships with private foundations, governmental funding agencies,
and increasing individual support. S/he will create and steward a
balanced development plan to help the institution reach its annual
financial goals. The Museum currently has a budget of $1.7 million, of
which almost 60% is unearned income.
Basic responsibilities include:
Lead and strategize all development efforts in conjunction with the
Executive Director and Board of Directors
Manage a 3-person development department
Plan and direct activities of the board with regard to development
Develop and steward a major donor program, from prospect research
through donor cultivation and requests
Develop and oversee annual fund and membership development campaigns
Develop departmental budget and work within organizational budget
Increase visibility of the corporate giving/sponsorship program
Research, write, and assemble private foundation and government grants
Participate in development of overall museum strategies as part of the
Planning Team
Represent the organization at community events & through membership in
professional organizations
In concert with the Curatorial, Education, Events, and Communications
departments, expand audience development
Skills and background:
Bachelors Degree
Experience in development with a cultural organization preferred
Experience leading and managing a development department preferred
3-5 years experience building relationships and cultivating donors
(both individual and organizations)
Excellent writing, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Creative thinker
Ability to speak in public and articulate and share passion for
organizational mission
Experience with relationship database (Raiser’s Edge preferred)
Microsoft XP and Office Suite

Position: Executive Director
Mission Statement
The Louisiana Crafts Guild passionately educates and promotes creative
expression and artistic excellence in craft.
Organization History
The Louisiana Crafts Guild is a private nonprofit arts organization
whose goal is to provide promotion and support for fine craft artists
across the state. The Louisiana Crafts Guild was incorporated with the
state in December of 1997. In partnership with the State of Louisiana,
the Louisiana Crafts Guild recognizes, promotes and educates member
craftsmen throughout the state. Members are juried by state standards
and accepted members display the Guild logo to denote their acceptance
into the Crafts Marketing Program. Members are authorized to use the
exclusive Crafts Marketing Program logo on all handcrafted wares,
“Handmade by Louisiana Craftsman”.
In April of 2001, the Guild opened the Sans Souci Fine Craft Gallery to
exhibit and sell member work. The gallery serves as the retail
establishment and an exhibit area for the fine crafts of its members.
The Guild offers members multiple sanctioned retail events and
additional retail opportunities at satellite gallery partnerships in
Alexandria and Shreveport. Guild membership stands at 200 and is
growing.
Position/Responsibilities
Job Title: Executive Director
Reports to: Board of Directors
Supervises: Louisiana Crafts Guild staff and contracted services
Responsibilities and Duties:
The Executive Director is responsible for conducting the administration
of the Louisiana Crafts Guild in an efficient and effective manner, in
accordance with the mission, objectives, goals and policies set by the
Board of Directors.
The Executive Director will fulfill the functional roles of (partial
list):
Administration
o Assure smooth-running, efficient staff support for the organization.
o Supervise Guild employees, contractors and interface with the board of
directors.
o Working in cooperation with the Board of Directors, direct and
supervise the implementation of special events.
Programs
o Evaluate, assess and manage current programs and develop and implement
new ones.
o Negotiate and execute all contracts in accordance with Board policies.
Marketing, Public Relations and Communications/Technology
o Develop efficient marketing procedures and member services.
o Listen and strategically respond to membership issues and concerns.
o Prepare a written marketing plan.
o Create and implement a strategy to personally visit and attend events
and meetings throughout the state with a view toward building membership
and Guild prominence.
o Coordinate the design, production and distribution, including
electronically, of all promotional materials.
o Represent the programs to government officials, agencies,
organizations and the general public.
Development/Fundraising
o With Board of Directors, set realistic contributed and earned income
goals.
o Prepare an annual written development plan with specific strategies
for increasing funding.
o Cultivate relationships for development and fundraising from the
private and public sector including corporate, individual, foundation
and government.
o Direct, promote and participate in all fundraising activities.
Financial Management
o Run the organization in a fiscally responsible manner within the
Board-approved budget.
o Participate in the creation, maintenance and supervision of financial
management systems necessary to the efficient running of the
organization.
Board Responsibilities
o Provide liaison with all committees.
o Regularly report to the full Board.
o In conjunction with the President, develop agendas for regular
meetings of the board and the annual membership meeting.
o With input from the Board, begin to develop an advisory council of
prominent individuals with influence.
