Sunday Post-Conference Tour to Banff National Park

Tour Details:
8:45 - Bus Departs International Hotel

11am - Arrive Lake Louise

1pm - Bus loads for Banff (the town)

1:30 - Arrive in Banff for tour of Historic homes with lots of craft and arts. 
Walking tour of galleries, Banff Ave, Banff Springs Hotel (the castle), river edge etc.

6:00 Bus loads for return to Calgary

8pm Arrive back at International Hotel

New Art Show: "Lucent: A Survey of Contemporary Canadian Glass"
will be on display during the conference.
The Glass Art Association of Canada (GAAC), as part of Canada’s National Craft Year 2007 events juried by three well recognized glass professionals: Tina Oldknow, curator for the prestigious Corning Museum of Glass; Calgary’s own Norman Faulkner, who started the glass program and continues to teach at the Alberta College of Art and Design; and Carole Pilon, an internationally known glass artist from Montreal who is affiliated with Espace Verre, a Montreal school devoted entirely to art glass.

“This is a significant event for glass artists. For the first time in Calgary and in Canada, internationally renowned artists and curators will select some of what represents the best of Contemporary Canadian Glass,” says Julia Reimer, Copresident of the GAAC.

“This national exhibition will showcase the distinctive and diverse works that comprise Canadian glass.” Their selection will be a showcase for some of the very best glass work in Canada and open to the public from May 30 to June 18 th, at the Illingworth Kerr Gallery at ACAD. This will be a traveling exhibition and be featured in The Works Art and Design Festival in Edmonton. The Lucent exhibition is held in conjunction with the Alberta College of Art and Design "Invisible Visible Craft Symposium" (June 10-12) and the "Craft Organization Development Association (CODA) Conference" (June 14-17).

Julia Reimer’s has been co-president of the Glass Art Association of Canada since 2004. Her work has been recognized through scholarships and awards from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, The Corning Museum of Glass and the Canada Council for the Arts. As well, her work is featured in the publication 500 Glass Objects. She is part owner of Firebrand Glass Studios in Black Diamond, Alberta.

Tyler Rock is the co-president of the Glass Art Association of Canada and one of Canada’s premier glass artists. His work has received recognition from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Alberta College of Art and Design and the Canada Council for the Arts. He has also been selected as “Artist in Residence” at the Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, New York. In addition to his studio practice, Tyler is program head of glass at the Alberta College of Art and Design as well as an instructor at Red Deer College and the Corning Museum of Glass.
